Do you struggle to stay motivated?
Think about the last time your alarm went off at 5:30am and the class your booked on at 6 creeps closer. Its all too easy to hit that cancel button and get an extra hour in bed.
Begin making your exercise routine a habit with these handy tips...
Set a goal
This one seems obvious right? but is your goal enough to keep you motivated? Ask yourself how much do you really want it?
Think about exactly what it is you want to achieve and how important it is to you? The answer needs to keep you from getting distracted. Making progress on your goals builds momentum, motivation, and excitement. When you see how far you’ve come towards your goal achievement, you’re even more motivated to carry on.
Enjoyment
This one is equally important to me, you are far less likely to stay on track if you're doing something you don't enjoy.
For example if your goal is getting fitter make sure you're able to enjoy the process by taking part in a sport or activity you actually want to do. The same goes for nutrition, habits and everything associated with getting you to your goal. As soon as you begin losing motivation, you will then lose consistency and therefore a grasp on your goal.
Accountability
Do you someone or something keeping you accountable? This will play a big part in keeping you on track.
You could look at working with a coach, taking part in a group class, working out with a friend or setting up a social media account you can share your progress too. These are all examples of accountability that can be used.
Sometimes when you're a little low on motivation and need a push, a friend or coach is perfect and works well at keeping you on the right tracks. Whoever these people are they need to know your goals and be honest with you when times are tough and you need that nudge in the right direction.
Think twice
Does your goal have to involve the way you look? If your goal is to gain a six pack and you fail or aren't seeing the results as fast as you'd like, you end up giving up.
Instead, try setting a more manageable target that has nothing to do with your looks. This could be "perform my first pull up" or "run a mile without stopping". This will get you fitter, give you more focus and as a by product you'll probably find you look better too.
Remember this, you will never be motivated 100% of the time. What is important is that you are able to battle through these tough times and come out the other end that little bit closer towards your goal.
